Moye.
1) Tell us a little about your book, what it’s
about?
George; My latest book title is “A Stranger Comes Crawling” It is a story about
a female Alien that comes to Earth. She can read minds and learns from the first
human she makes contact with that she is in danger; just before being here. She
also learns even though he thinks she is beautiful that she is missing
something, no eyebrows or eyelashes and the color of her eyes were like little
diamonds having no real color. Having a powerful mind, she quickly learns to
project to the human mind that she has such things, including the color blue
matching his eyes. Being a nineteen year old male seeing a naked female
standing in front of him, she mentally informs him that they reproduce the same
way as humans. She mates with him and by touching him, learns their language and
starts speaking to him, using her rarely used vocal cords so she appears more
human. Reading his mind, she learns that he recently broke up with a girl called
Holly; she assumes that name instead of her own name. Within seventy-two hours,
Ripley called Rip by everyone finds himself marrying her. The Authorities are
searching for her and discover she is hiding as his wife, and the trouble
begins.
Captured, she discovers that her human friends and her husband are in
danger, so she uses her powerful mind to remove a wall and allow them to escape.
In fleeing she communicates with plants, animals and other things using them to
help them escape from Florida to Texas across the gulf. The Dolphins and Whales
provide her a speedy way across, along with her friends Sally and Denise that
Holly thinks of as her family along with Rip.
Joined by her parent that followed her lifeboat as both fled to escape
a rebellion aboard ship in space, in Arizona Tee`ra arrives and she appears less
human than Holly, but she has an even more powerful mind. In her worlds, no one
but the mother knew who fathered their child, selecting one at random and taking
them into the darkened room for the impregnating act. They didn’t even have a
word for Mother or Father, but Holly started using the Human word for Mother but
Tee`ra refused to recognize that word, she was Tee`ra, that meant ruler in her
home worlds! Neither of the aliens had emotions or compassion but Holly being on
Earth had learned what love was and other
emotions.
The whole world knew about Tee`ra’s arrival even though Holly’s arrival
had been covered up, to much of the world saw Tee`ra’s arrival. After several
narrow escapes, Holly, Rip and Tee`ra join minds to have those in Area 51 build
them a craft to leave Earth. When it is complete, they along with others leave
Earth for farther adventures on Holly’s home worlds of Zotorna, Tis`can and
Ru`man. Rip learns those with powerful minds call themselves the Minds, those
without powerful minds are known as the lowly
Zotorna!
2) What genre is this current book, do you write in any other
genres?
George; Si Fi -Adventure
3) When did you first decide you wanted to be a writer, at what
age?
George; My other books, the Lightning in the Tunnel Series (Lighting in the
Tunnel Begins; Zigzagging Home, The Journey Continues.*; A Place called Terra;
Terror Reigns; and General Tomahawk Rises) are Post Apocalyptic
books.
I also just published a romance/adventure with a twist (Time Travel
being the twist) called “T.T. Gristman”. I loved to write and didn’t really
start to put together anything until in my mid-thirties. I just turned forty
when I seriously started writing on a typewriter then switched to a
computer.
4) Do you have a day job or do you write
exclusively?
George; I am now retired after spending thirty years in the metals industry as
a Manager. I now just work on the house, an old house and write until my wife
gets on me for ignoring her and not talking to her, even though she was the one
that got me to publish, after reading my first book just before I
retired!
5) When did you start writing your first book?
George; I wrote my first
book in 1987 but it was never published, just revised for twenty some years. I
wrote other books at the same time but never finished any of them. A Stranger
Comes Crawling was spawned by my book Eight in the Lightning in the Tunnel
Series called “A Need for Lightning” where I had to decide to end the series or
move up the children as the main characters, so I decided to create further
adventures for the Characters of the series bringing in Alien contact. I stopped
writing the final book of the series, ”Lightning Rages” and wrote “T.T.
Gristman” and “A Stranger Comes Crawling”
6) How long does it take you to write a book?
George; Now about 4 months.
7) Do you have an outline when you write or Do you just write and see
where it goes?
George; I just write and see where it goes, only the first few books of the
series did I have an outline, I found that the story flows better by not having
an outline. Let the characters lead the way.
What is your writing process like; do you have any weird quirks when
writing?
George; I guess you can say that I have a couple of weird quirks, I like music
in the background, some songs get the creative juices flowing and when I reach
a block, I will stare out the window not looking at a thing or realizing what is
out the window so I can write the next part of the book in my head. I do that a
lot because I usually work on two or three books at a time, whichever one that
day runs across my mind.
9) What kind of research went into this book, tell me a little bit
about that process.
George; Since this book is
straight out of my imagination not much research was except what I know. On the
other hand, in writing the Lightning in the Tunnel Series, my daughter and I
traveled the path that they took on foot to reach their destination; except I
didn’t use what was really there, I created the
ruins.
10) What is the most interesting thing you learned about while writing
your books?
George; I learned that it is
not just to tell the story but the need to breathe life into the characters so
that the reader feels they know them, some become heroes and some become
villains. Also that is not necessary to tell every detail, leave that to the
reader as they view the world or situation I describe in their own minds. I’m
always talking to someone that read or is reading one of my books, and find it
fascinating the character they love.
11) What motivated you to tell this story?
George; What motivated me to tell this story? I am one of those that believe
aliens have been watching us and might have even made contact with us in the
past, so I wondered what would happen if an Alien landed unknown to most people
on this Earth and lived in hiding. That thought was what led me to tell this
story, and in Lightning in the Tunnel Series to add Alien contact to the
story.
12) How have you marketed this book?
George; So far, all I have done on this book is a lot of blogging bits and
pieces of the story in hopes of generating interest in it. My paperbacks, I
have done some book signings along with blogging.
13) Do you have any other work out?
George; Three eBooks only,
“T.T. Gristman” “Lightning in the Tunnel Begins” and “A Stranger Comes Crawling”
These are also available in e-books along with paperbacks: “Zigzagging Home”;
The Journey Continues.*; “A Place Called Terra”; Terror Reigns” and “General
Tomahawk Rises”.
14) What projects are you working on now?
George; “A Need For
Lightning” will be available in a few days as a e-book. Just waiting on the
cover to upload it! “Brandi’s Nightmare” is three quarters written it is a
murder mystery, my first attempt at writing a mystery. I just started writing
“Land of the Midnight Mist” a story about an Alien world where humans come to
visit as the Aliens!
15) What has been your toughest criticism? What has been your best
compliment as an author?
George; The over use of the words, Bloody and Hon in my Lightning in the Tunnel
series besides to much politics for some of my readers. I haven’t gotten any
feedback from readers of “A Stranger Comes Crawling” I expect some soon when
they download the book and read it.
The most and best compliment I received on the Lightning in the Tunnel
Series was one reader that comes from over fifty miles away to get the next
book in the series when it is out, who has a bookshelf he even labeled “AGMoye”
to keep them safe. My only problem with this reader, he only wants hardbacks and
doesn’t have an e-book reader. The only good item I heard on “A Stranger Comes
Crawling” is once they start; it doesn’t slow down but keeps going and going
keeping the reader’s interest.
16) What do you do when you’re not writing?
George; Read, work on the house that is old in constant repair, Go for drives
in the country and hopefully do a little fishing. Learning to play the guitar,
so learning maybe I will be a decent player one day and love to play cards
especially Spades (NSL version)
17) What do your friends and family think of your writing, have they
been supportive?
George; Most of my friends
love reading my books and so does most of my family. Some wonder where on Earth
I come up with the things in my books. Why did I think of that? A few of my
friends are my worst critics but I don’t mind as long as they find the story
good and tell others about them.
18) Do you hear from your reader much, what has the feed back been
like?
George; I think question fifteen answered this but I will add that most liked
the books and found one character that they loved and another that they didn’t
care for. Like I said earlier, a few got tired of the word Bloody in the parts
where an Englishman was speaking and a few got tired of hearing the word Hon
when addressing Brad. I will wait of feedback from this book to say
more.
19) What was your favorite book growing up?
George; Tunnel in the Sky by Robert Heinlein, I might have spelled his name
wrong but I read every one of his early books with this being my
favorite.
20) Tea, coffee or hot chocolate
George; Coffee- I drink a couple of pots per day and always
have.
21) Cat or dog?
George; Cat, I had one male cat that we named “Claw” that wandered in here and
recently he brought a stray feral female cat that had three kittens. They now
call our barn home so we have named them. So now we have four cats, one must
have been driven off being a male only the females
stayed.
22) Print book or e-reader which medium do you
prefer?
George; Print books but I am
slowly learning how to read on the computer
e-books.
23) Worst fear
George; My worst fear is when I get too old to write that the stories still
inside me won’t be brought forth!
24) Greatest wish
George; My greatest wish is to see one or more of my books becoming a movie and
seeing my name as the book it was based on. I know they will change it around
to fit in the movie but still knowing that it was good enough to be made into a
movie would be great!
25) If your book was made into a movie what actors would you choose to
play the parts?
George; Summer Glau as the Alien “Holly” and maybe Nathan Fillion as the actor
or one of the up and coming male stars.
26) Glass half empty or half full?
George; My glass is half full and one day will be
overflowing!
27) Favorite color
George; Blue then Green
28) Favorite place
George; In my wife’s arms or sitting in front of the computer
writing
29) Light or Dark
George; Light, love the sunshine and outdoors!
30) Most embarrassing moment?
George; My most embarrassing moment that stands out in my memory was when I was
still a kid growing up in a small town in Arkansas back in those times, and my
mother re-married four years after my father passed away moving us to
California, LA to be exact.
I delivered newspapers in my small town in Arkansas and knew everyone
there but still it was that you didn’t speak to a young female until introduced
by someone. The day after we arrived in LA, I decided to go for a walk to see
the city but I had no idea how big it was. Anyway on my walk, I was wearing a
green shirt and having green eyes they stood out. A Carload of teenage girls
pulled up to the corner where I was standing and one of them yelled, “Hey Jolly
green giant! You want to ride!” I turned a dark red not knowing that this was
the way in California that teenagers met. I was so embarrassed; I couldn’t
answer a girl being this bold to speak to me, a total stranger! When I didn’t
answer, they drove away leaving me wondering what kind of world I had moved
to!
