The embattled Shadowhunters withdraw to Idris - but not even the famed demon towers of Alicante can keep Sebastian at bay. And with the Nephilim trapped in Idris, who will guard the world against demons?
When one of the greatest betrayals the Nephilim have ever known is revealed, Clary, Jace, Isabelle, Simon, and Alec must flee - even if their journey takes them deep into the demon realms, where no Shadowhunter has set foot before, and from which no human being has ever returned...
Again this is why I prefer to read series when they are finished. I feel like I have waited an incredibly long time for this last book to come out, (2 years) and the impatient person that I am really hates to wait. I will be honest as much as I loved the other books in this series I found Clary incredibly annoying at times in the previous books. I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Clary has evolved into the kick ass heroine that she was meant to be, she may never be a fluid as Jace, Alec and Isabelle but she is now capable of helping the team without putting all their lives in danger in the process. There is a lot of prep and planning as they struggle to keep up and get one step ahead of Sebastian which is a more daunting task than they ever imagined. Not all alliances in the Shadowhunter world are what they seem and the world is in grave danger as a result. I felt from the very beginning that the introduction of new characters and the appearance of some old beloved characters where setting us up for a new series as they weren't as necessary to the story other than passing interest, so I imagine we will be seeing more of Emma and Julian in Cassandra Clare's new series Dark Artifices. I was happy to see not just Clary's point of view but the perspective of the other key players in this novel. I think Cassandra Clare did a great job wrapping up the series in a way that makes everybody happy, there was action, romance, and everything in between. I think it tied the Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments perfectly and was able to set up the new series perfectly knowing that like the other series some of our favorite characters will probably be making an appearance as their present day selves as this book was set in 2008. So even though I was ready to say good bye to the shadowhunter world, and am actually really looking forward to the new series and I am sure in true Clare fashion it going to be AMAZING! This is a series that I am sure I will pick up again and reread over and over again. Come on who doesn't love broody/moody bad boys that can slay demons. Just Sayin'
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 star rating
