Spring break arrives, which means a visit to Grandma and Mom's old hometown. Grandma is eccentric, but she's also cool and understands Erin's frustrations. And she can help. By taking Erin on a visit to Mom's old high school. Not Mom's school today. But Mom's school as it was in 1970.
Erin experiences the trip of her lifetime. Back in time, where she struggles to fit in with a bunch of kids who never heard of the Internt or laptops or cell phones. Where she meets some very cool kids. And one not so cool kid named Catherine. Now known as Mom.
Talk turns to tennis, and inevitably the challenge is made and accepted. And they play the tennis match of the century. Erin had repeatedly heard how Mom was undefeated. Now was her time to do something about it. They battle hard until, in unexpected fashion, it's over. But when she returns to the present Erin learns the truth about her Mom. And Mom learns some lessons as well.
Enjoy Erin's thrill ride, her fun, her excitement, her anxiety. And discover how her trip to the past changed her present.
Advantage Erin is a quick read coming in just over 100 pgs on my e-reader.
The beginning started at little slow for me I wasn't really feeling it. I liked Erin's character but really wasn't liking her friend much, a little too shallow for my liking. I liked the premise of going back in time and finding a younger version of your parents and hangin' out to see what they were like especially as a social experiment. I think that for Erin to time travel unknowingly and take it in and adjust so quickly and adapt is a little unrealistic, she was in the 70's for 20 min and adapted in minutes. lets face it, if it were at all possible to time travel you would need time to plan so you didn't alter the future too much, you need to know about where your going, and what the culture was like. I'm not sure why the grandmother didn't tell her what she was doing or acknowledge the adventure afterwards. I was a little sad to see Sunny turn into Aaron I think I liked him better before the time travel. Mother daughter relationships are always complicated and must be that much more complicated when one is over bearing.
Over all I like the writing it was a little rushed in places but the over all concept was good.
I gave this book a 3 out of 5 star rating
