This is a good book for kids around 8-12 yrs. old. Chip is a great example of most kids.He has a hard time reading, and lacks confidence, when he struggles he is made fun of and bullied not only by his peers but his teacher. He doesn't see himself as anything but a screw up. When a huge Storm hits his mountain side home Chip is forced by circumstance to look after his little sister, her best friend and his own friend during the storm of the century. They have to survive on very little food and no electricity for a few days before they learn of an impending avalanche that they are in the direct path of. Chip decides to use his science fair project to save them from certain death, and ends up becoming an unlikely hero.
I thought this was a good read, an interesting concept to show kids that just because you struggle in one area doesn't mean you are stupid. Sometimes adults are just as guilty as kids when it comes to bullying and heroes come in all age and sizes. I think a lot if kids will enjoy this book and relate to it.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 star rating
