When an accident throws her life in turmoil, she is forced to leave her home and seek the help of strangers. She must face her darkest fears and learn how to fall. She meets with two women she has long avoided and meets with others she thought she had lost. But most importantly she finds herself.
The Company of Shadows is the final book in the Healer's Shadow trilogy. Judith has two sons Jo and his shadow Simon, and a loving husband Bruno; she has given up the dangerous life of a healer to focus on her family. When Bruno is killed in an accident at the docks Judith’s life is once again in upheaval and she is forced to sell her belongings and abandon their home to make the trip to the forest home of her late husbands a trip she has avoided their entire marriage and accept the help of the two people she has been avoiding for years.
While trying to make the forest her home Grandma is pushing Judith to become the woman she has always been meant to be and follow her mother’s footsteps by becoming a healer and a wise woman. Judith is forced to face her demons and her fears, and in the process finds herself, through forgiveness and acceptance. This book was a fantastic conclusion to the trilogy and wrapped up Judith’s story nicely; my heart broke all over again for Anya (Judith) “I am Anya, and I am nothing” as she revisited memories she had long buried on her long journey through the desert. I loved her interactions with Peter, and the bond they start to form and the understanding they have to seem to have of one another. Again I love the way Zoe Brooks weaves her tale and makes us apart of Judith’s journey; she puts so much energy and emotion into her words, that you feel as if you are a fly on the wall, I had no problem visualizing all Judith’s interactions, her tender moments, her temper tantrums, and her moments of clarity. Great job.
