Seventeen year-old Honor Stevens is not an ordinary teenager. Sure, she looks like one on the outside…but on the inside, there’s a whole world of pain going on. Honor is an empath. That means she can feel other people’s pain - like her mother who's just had a heart attack or the girl who's dying of cancer. What she doesn’t know is what Ethan Sutherland comes to town to tell her – she can save these people. But at what cost? For every life Honor saves, she knocks years off her own.
When Ethan comes looking for her, he isn’t counting on falling in love. Now that he has, he wishes he hadn’t told her about her abilities. Though he tries his best to talk her out of saving every soul, Ethan loses the battle – Honor’s too nice for her own good.
Then there’s the matter of Ethan’s estranged, morally corrupt half-brother, Storm – he loves Honor too. And because Honor is intrinsically empathic, she’s aware of Storm’s softer side and begins falling for him as well.
When the two brothers are forced to work together against a group of evil empaths who are after Honor, they need to put their differences aside and focus on saving the one girl they both love.
I love the premise of this story line I have yet to read a paranormal book where the main characters are empaths. I really liked how honest the author was in her approach to Honours feelings, yes she can readily accept what she is, after years of doctors telling her there is nothing wrong with her, here is finally an answer. Unlike other heroines in stories she is able to be a girl and be confused and cry, have temper tantrums, and still be a strong interesting character. The relationship between the brothers are volitile at best, there is strong mistrust between the brothers and a short life time of hurt, but they are willing to work together to help save Honor from the bad guys. I didn't really like the chemistry between Ethan and Honor it fell a little flat for me and seemed forced. I understand being home schooled for so long that she just wants to be accepted and make friends have a boy friend etc. I just feel that the relationship went from this guys a stalker to I love you a little too fast, and needed a little more time to grow and build story wise. Over all I enjoyed the story it was a quick read and one that I think a lot of YA readers will enjoy.
I gave this book a 3 out of 5 star rating.
The second book in The Honor Trilogy finds Storm contending with his feelings for his brother’s girlfriend, while formulating a plan to finish off the evil empath out for Honor’s blood, once and for all.
Storm Sutherland is still trying to ignore the fact that he’s fallen for Honor Stevens. And now that she’s gone and brought him back to life, it’s even more difficult to get her out of his mind. With Ethan and Honor still going strong, Storm battles between his impulses to win her heart, regardless of his brother’s feelings, or walk away, leaving the only girl who’d ever breathed life into him.
But before he walks away, he must find a way to stop the man who is out for Honor’s blood, the result of a two-hundred year old vengeance against her grandfather that Honor must pay.
Will Storm come up with a plan to end this war before she pays the price?
I like the Story line with Storm and Honor so much more, I mean what girl doesn't like a bad boy, I find Ethan one dimensional he is all or nothing and more than a little bossy, I feel caged in just thinking about it. He resents Honor's need to help people, and feels like he can tell her what to do, he is rude to her friend, and fights with his brother even though he knows it hurts her, I just really found he got on my nerves. Storm being older is a little more mature and gives her the space she needs to figure out her feelings, he is aware that she cares for them both, and is willing to let her work through that. Honor's parents I don't even know how to tackle that subject, if it were my child I wouldn't be placing my only child's life in the hands of a twenty something and a teenager, in regards to evil empaths and 200 year old vandettas. But thats just me. With that said though I did like this 2nd installment much more than the first, the story seemed to have better bones and there was a lot more going on, it felt like the author was really hitting their stride. Cliff hanger ending that gets you excited for the next installment.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5 star rating
When confronted with Honor’s mortality, Ethan finds his rusty empathic powers are no match for the damage that's already been done to Honor’s heart - if she doesn’t find a donor, Honor will die.
In the third and final book of The Honor Trilogy, teenage empath Honor Stevens is fighting for her life, while her first love Ethan Sutherland and his half-brother Storm Sutherland are fighting to keep her alive. But even if a donor is found before Honor’s heart gives out, Ethan’s worst fear has come true – the government has been made aware of Honor’s healing abilities and now they have come to take her away.
Both Ethan and Storm have to make sacrifices to save Honor from both her fates, but who will make the ultimate sacrifice?
Book two ended with Honor and her family in a plane crash; While not majorly injured in the crash Honor can't help but ease the suffering of as many victims of the plane crash as she can, she knows it could kill her but how can she not safe the ones that she can; isn't that why she was blessed/cursed with this ability. Healing all those people takes it toll on her heart and now she needs a heart transplant in order to live. Her friends are trying to help her cope as best they can trying to pack in as many good memories as they can in case she doesn't make it. Ethan is angry and Storm is going crazy and everyone is just trying to put on a brave face and not freak out infront of Honor as all the stress is hard on her already weakend heart. And to top it all off the goverment is now aware of her secret. I understand why Storm runs away completely he can't keep his crap together, he is popping pills to keep himself numb so Honor isn't upset by him being upset, and its not working, so he runs away to protect not just himself but Honor. Although it made for an intersting read I did not like the sacrifice that Storm attempted to make, while I understand the intentions it was short sighted and selfish, as there was no way of knowing if he would have even been a match. Ethan redeemed himself in my books a little by sacrificing his freedom for Honors although if Storm hadn't done what he did it wouldn't have been neccessary anyway. I liked the ending of the story it gives you a glimce into the future and where eveyone is at and ties everything together. But I still think Ethan's an ass it just his personality.
I gave this book a 3 out of 5 star rating.
